Integrated Community Based Initiatives (ICOBI) is an indigenous non-governmental, non-profit making, non-denominational, charitable organization founded in 1994 by Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye in collaboration with his colleagues who were motivated to serve the rural people at a time when NGOs were not interested in working in “apparently well off” districts like Bushenyi.
The other founder members are: Mr. Bernard Mwijuka formerly UNAIDS Advisor to the Ghana AIDS Commission and now Technical Advisor MOGLSD, Mr. Dan Wamanya-USAID Program Management Specialist, Mr. Dennis Nduhura- Program Manager for HIV/AIDS Thematic Program in Africa for ACORD. Others are Mr. Mutambi Aaron-Former Project Officer in charge of Reproductive Health for Save the Children USA, Mrs. Ruth Sande- former headmistress of Secondary Schools and Mrs. Deborah Mwesigye, Manager Uganda Commodity Exchange. Six of the founder members constitute the current governing Executive Board of the organization.
ICOBI was first registered with the NGO Board of Uganda in 1996 (Reg.No: s.5914/1562) and its registration renewed overtime. The Organization is registered to carry out its activities mainly in the fields of health and income generating projects.
